About
A friendly museum and heritage centre in a beautiful, peaceful setting above the river Brora with views across the Moray Firth and the Cairngorms beyond. Situated right on the NC500, making it the perfect spot for exploring Scotland! The Brora Heritage Centre showcases the unique and fascinating history and industrial Brora, with coal from 1529 up to 1974, numerous industries were 'fueled' from the mining over the centuries. Brora having the most northerly Colliery in the UK, with Salt pans, Jurassic Clay, Brick works, Distillery, Hunters Woolen Mill and the colourful characters of the area, including Megan Boyd ... We have several exhibition rooms, you can explore the 'coal mine' with exhibits and models that explain the mining over the centuries. A Croft and Archaeology room with exhibits dating back to the Bronze Age, paintings and illustrations of highland life; an area with local Military, Football, Distillery, Ice cream, Midwifery, Olympic and Medical exhibits; and a children's play area with dinosaur models, colouring, word search, codes, dino-jigsaws etc. We also serve refreshments including Capaldi's ice cream - something for everyone! We charge £3 for entry to the Heritage Centre, but you are welcome to leave a donation in the letter box, should the Centre be closed. Please note: the centre is open between April and October, gates to Fascally park remain open 24/7, and the Heritage Centre is open 7 days a week (1030-1630).
