Located in the beautiful Yorkshire, nestled between the Howardian Hills and the Yorkshire Dales, Cooper King is England's only self-built whisky and gin distillery. Inspired by the wild spirit of Tasmania and rooted in the rugged beauty of Yorkshire, we bring you whisky distilled with craftsmanship, honesty, and adventure. You’ll find us on the edge of Sutton-on-the-Forest, a small village 9 miles north of York. From the village roundabout, head north on Stillington Road (aka the B1363) for 0.8 miles. At the stone ‘Cooper King’ sign under the cherry tree, turn right down the private drive. We’re in the timber clad building towards the rear of the site. Parking for motorhomes is on the grass to the left of the shipping containers - please park as close to the rear of the field as you can. Experience the best we have to offer by joining a guided distillery tour where you’ll try at least 6 different spirits. Drivers will be offered a complimentary sample to take away and enjoy at home. Tours and Tastings run on Saturdays and, if you prefer a midweek visit we also offer guided tours every Wednesday at 3pm - perfect for a midweek escape. All tours require advance booking. On our tours, you’ll get the full lowdown on vacuum gin distillation, marvel at the only Tasmanian copper still in the Northern Hemisphere, and discover how our award-winning sustainable spirits are lovingly made. Then it’s time to taste: enjoy a fully guided tasting of at least six different spirits – think bold gins, characterful whiskies and more! Alongside our licensed bar you can also browse our shop stocked with England's first net zero energy whisky and carbon-negative gin, vodka, flasks, glasses, cocktail hampers and much more! Please be aware that the shop, bar and outdoor seating area are dog friendly, but no dogs are permitted in the distillery building itself. The distillery is also wheelchair accessible. We are conveniently situated just 20 minutes from the city of York and we are close to the famous market towns of North Yorkshire. Easingwold, Haxby and Malton are all a short drive away.
